Some Indian recipes direct the cook to pressure cook an item for a number of "whistles". How does one convert this for a U.S. pressure cooker? Many thanks!

I have an American Cooker without whistle and it works just fine. Mostly for chicken it takes 3-5 mnts on high heat and then reduce the heat to its lowest and cook for another 4-7 mnts. Usually it is written on them the cooking time for lentils potatoes chicken etc. on the cooker itself. After a while you will get a feel of it. Take caution for the first few times and open the lid earlier than the given time. Check if it is done by fork or fingers and if not done close the lid and put on heat again. When the steam builds up reduce the heat to low and cook again for a few mnts. By opening it again and again you won't spoil the recipe. Good luck in your cooking. Richa
